About The Role

At North Norfolk District Council, we are committed to supporting our most vulnerable residents and preventing homelessness across our community. We are looking for a dedicated Benefits Visiting Officer to join our friendly and welcoming team and be part of our ever-improving service delivering financial support to residents of North Norfolk. This role is fixed term until 31 May 2026, and is covering an internal secondment.

As a Benefits Visiting Officer you will play a key role in helping residents access the financial support they are entitled to, with a focus on early intervention and homelessness prevention. You will identify unclaimed benefits and grants for households, provide benefits advice, and work in collaboration with other teams across People Services to help lift people out of poverty and allow them to have financial resilience.

In this role, you will:
  • conduct home visits to assess benefit entitlement and support with claims for Housing Benefit, Universal Credit, Discretionary Housing Payments, and other welfare support
  • identify low income households at risk of homelessness and take early preventative action
  • liaise with Housing, Revenues, landlords, and support services
  • support in the recovery of Housing Benefit overpayments
  • assess entitlement to Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support

About You

We're looking for an enthusiastic, pro-active, compassionate person, who thrives on making a difference to people’s lives.

You will have knowledge of welfare benefits, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work empathetically and respectfully.

You will be confident in lone working, as well as enjoy working as part of a team.
